hot drinks, crunchy leaves, crisp air, rainy days, cuddling up in a blanket reading all the books.
In the summer I am enthralled by the long days, filled with natural light and carefree moments, but every fall, my soul seems to take a deep breath. The rhythm, routine, and stability of fall seems to bring me comfort. My favourite part has been the quiet mornings. Over the summer I pushed myself to get in the habit of waking up early. The mornings are now my favourite part of the day.
This is what a normal morning looks like for me:
- wake up. drink water. put the kettle on
- brush teeth / get dressed
- make tea (sometimes coffee)
- light a candle, and spend time on things that are good for my soul: reading, writing, praying, doing something creative
- eat breakfast
Once I have done all these things, that is when I respond to text messages, emails and shift into a more work-focused mindset that I will need to be in for most of the day.
If you are looking to establish a more calm morning, my two biggest suggestions would be to wake up early and not check your phone during the first couple hours (or as long as you can).
The mornings really can be a beautiful time and I think they deserve to be celebrated more.
