hello lovely people! As I venture into blogging, I will for sure be bringing up old photos and sharing some highlights and stories from the travels and experiences I have had. Today we are travelling to Victoria British Columbia, where my sister and I ventured to meet up with my cousin for a girls weekend in September.
My attachment to this city is for a variety of reasons. This city is my namesake. My parents chose the name Victoria for me because this was the city where they met and fell in love. Perhaps this is why I feel a nostalgic pull when I visit this place, imagining my parents young and in love, exploring the city years ago. I also spent a few years of my childhood living in Victoria. My greatest tie to the city is that it was the first place I flew solo. My cousin and I attended summer camp on the island for many years, and when I was 13 years old, my parents let me fly from Kelowna to Victoria all by myself. I will remind you that this flight only takes about forty minutes, however it was a momentous moment for me–probably what began my addiction to travel.
Now that you understand my emotional connection to the city, let’s explore five things we did while visiting
The Breakwater. This is a beautiful walkway with a beautiful look point for gazing out to the ocean or watching ships zoom around in the harbour
Jam Cafe. Oh my oh my. This is seriously amazing. I had heard from several people that this place was a must when in Victoria, and that there was a line up to get in. I was a little skeptical thinking perhaps it was overrated with tourists, but let me tell you it is worth the line up wait
Goldstream Trestle. After eating so much at Jam, we needed to do something to get moving! This hike is a beautiful walk the whole way through, and the Trestle itself is so cool. If you are afraid of heights you will for sure be a bit uneasy. Usually I am not afraid of heights, but I was feeling a little shaky as we walked across the beams.
Bon Macaron Patisserie. If you know me at all, you know that I am hopelessly addicted to macarons. Whenever I visit anywhere, I try to find macarons, and Victoria did not disappoint. This shop was cute and offered lots of options, included some savoury ones, which are always interesting. My favourite flavours were Crème Brulee and Champange.
The best for last: Regional Assembly of Text. This place was a stationery-lovers dream. Filled with so many paper goods including postcards, notecards, notebooks, stamps, you name it. They also have the cutest letter writing stations with typewriters, ready for you you send some snail mail. Victoria was a dream. There are so many other lovely places in this city that I didn’t get to mention, so go check it out for yourself, I am sure you will find something you love. Thankful that I got to go on this trip with my lovely sister and spend time with my dear cousin Jenny. We will be back!xo victoria
