HOW TO FEEL COMFORTABLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA (and get *real* candid shots)⠀

You have decided it is time to get some photos taken. You start looking through Instagram for a photographer. When you look through their work, it seems every person is happy, confident & comfortable. You feel nervous because you know you could never look like that. You’re too awkward and don’t know what to do with your hands.

Sound familiar? This is the story I hear over and over again, and I am here to debunk the myth that you need to be a certain kind of person to feel confident on camera. ⠀⠀⠀⠀

1.  You NEED to trust the person behind the camera. How to do this? Hire a photographer that you feel connected to. Read the reviews on their site to see how others felt after a session. Don’t be afraid to chat with them on the phone before your session, that can really help with feeling like you are working with someone you know rather than a stranger.
2. Don’t underestimate the power of what you are wearing. The clothing you wear has a huge effect on how confident you feel! Wear clothing that you can move in. Feeling like something is too tight or needs to be adjusted every 5 seconds does not help with feeling confident & comfortable. Wear the clothes that make you feel good!
3. Prepare ahead of time! The mentality is a huge part of getting photos taken. This could mean making sure you’ve had something to eat (aka not buzzing off caffeine), giving yourself enough transition time, and asking the photographer what to expect.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

At the end of the day, it is the photographer’s job to help you pose & tell you what to do with your hands, but these tips can help you feel better beforehand!
