When I was in my teenage years, Mondays used to be the worst day of the week. Partially because I had to go back to school after the weekend, but another reason was simply that everyone else hated Mondays. Not to be dramatic, but society as a whole has created a stigma around Mondays & over-glorified the weekend. If you don’t believe me, just google “Monday memes”. It has been a discipline to learn to not only appreciate Mondays but actually come to a place to love them.
Why does it matter?
Is it fun to join in on the universal “Mondays are the worst” bandwagon? Of course. However, I think it is way more powerful to be able to shift your mindset and see the beginning of the week as a fresh opportunity. At the beginning of each week, we get to start again. We get to create the week we want to have. I would much rather start my week from a place of positivity rather than dreading the entire week ahead.
How to start loving Mondays
If you are reading this type of article, it is likely you don’t just want to be inspired, you also want some practical advice. Here are my best tips:
Be prepared: Use your Sunday evening as a chance to get ready for the week ahead.
Give yourself something to look forward to. Maybe Monday morning is the day you make yourself a full breakfast or go through the drive-through to get your fave coffee
Make plans on Monday evening. This helps to realize that fun stuff isn’t only reserved for the weekend. This doesn’t have to be anything crazy, maybe invite someone over for dinner, or plan a date night in.
Stop talking so negatively about them. Don’t give in!
Find something good to read / watch. One of my favorite writers publishes her email newsletter every single Monday, and it gives me hope every week! Find something that comes out on Monday: a Podcast, TV show, Youtube video, and make it a habit to watch it every Monday!
