In 2019 it was a major goal of mine to get back into my habit of reading on a regular basis. It was one of the goals that I was the proudest of actually accomplishing. My years in elementary school were constantly spent in books. Libraries and book stores have always been a safe place for me. However, there was a season in my life where I only read books if I had to. My free time was taken over by technology and it became a habit that got to be really unhealthy. At the time it felt natural because everyone else I knew was also spending all their free time on the internet.
Eventually, I came to place where I began to set boundaries around my technology. This was a game-changer and made me realize that I actually had SO much free time. The excuse “I don’t have time to read” was no longer valid.
I use the app Goodreads to track how many books I read each year. It is one of the best ways to find new books too! If you visit my profile on goodreads, you can see how much I read each year. During high school, I seriously would only read 2-6 books each year. In 2018 I challenged myself to read 20 books, and once I accomplished that I really fell in love with reading again. So in 2019, my goal was to read 35 books, and I actually did it!
Out of those 35 books, I wanted to share my favourite ones:
