One of the main beliefs we hold at Wilder Heart is that we can find adventure in every day moments. When we started our business, we had just gotten engaged and wondered what pursuing creativity in the mundane could look like. We had recently come back to Canada from months of studying and travelling across Europe, and pondered the question of what adventure could look like right here and now, at home.
It didn’t take long for us to realize that brewing magic didn’t require a whole lot other than a wild imagination and a resourceful spirit. True adventure didn’t demand a massive budget, international travel itinerary or months on end of vacation (although we do still dream of globe-trotting every day!). So we set off on a new venture -our business. The heart behind it is to pursue beauty and the many things of life that thrill our hearts, and capture them as best we can. We also want to encourage you, to do the same in your own day-to-day lives.
In these unprecedented days of COVID-19, many people have to grieve cancelled vacation plans, postponed life events and outings of all sorts. But what if we, together, reminded each other than adventure can be sought in the everyday? What if we considered what adventure could look right here and now?
Hopefully, these days of being home will help all of us unleash the inner creative and adventurer in all of us. In celebrating creativity in these days where most of us are tucked in our homes, we will better be able to seek adventure when life as we know it resumes itself. As said author Carol Ryrie Brink, “Life is just a lot of everyday adventures.”
Say it with me: Adventure is not limited to what is far and beyond – it can be here and now.
In the future, when the monotony of life seems overbearing, let’s remember adventure is what we make of it.
In fact….
Adventure can be choosing the scenic route to work, to school, to the grocery store– and taking the time to notice the things that you find striking on the way.
Adventure can be a new recipe, immersing yourself in new flavors and cultures through taste.
Adventure can be telling someone that they are beloved and beautiful.
Adventure can be unearthing your hidden talents and trying a new skill -crocheting, dancing, drawing, piano, a language. It means mustering up the courage to dive into something you know little about but want to experience.
Adventure can be making one room in your home look really, really beautiful – and positively you. Collect items that mean something to you and your story, and make a home out of them.
Adventure can be piling into the car with your people, with a full tank of gas and no destination in mind. Just go -and see where the road leads you.
Adventure can be at the tip of your fingers, through a book that leads you to unknown places.
Adventure can be learning -delving yourself into a quest for knowledge about a culture, field of study, public figure, etc.
Adventure can be making a new friend.
Adventure can be taking a class.
Adventure can be baking a cake for no reason -which is the best reason of all.
Adventure can be paying attention to details like the way your table is set, and changing things up by adding candles or a posy of your favorite flowers.
Adventure can be dressing up to feel fancy on a Wednesday.
Adventure can be high tea in your living room or a campout in your backyard.
Adventure can be to explore your own city or town and fall in love with it all over again.
Adventure can be to invite neighbors over for a block party – not letting yourself be overcome by fear of awkwardness or timidity, but bringing people into your corner of the universe.
Adventure can be as simple as following your feet and hands, wherever they lead you. Let your feet guide you on an unexpected journey; let your hands create something new. There is something so freeing and empowering in releasing your pre-conceived schedules and familiar patterns, and instead let your intuition pull you toward new horizons.
Let’s get started today.
*Please note that some of the ideas on this list of adventures can’t all be done in this time of a global pandemic! Rather, they serve to inspire you when life resumes its course and it becomes safe to do so again. Many, however, can still be done from the safety of your home. What a gift that our own homes can be a place where we can see adventure, too! Stay safe AND creative, everyone!
