If you are planning your wedding and feeling pulled between traditions and making the day your own, I get you. When I was planning my wedding I felt that same pull. I wanted to honour tradition, yet also create a day that was unique to Levi + I.
If you were to ask me if I am team “first look” or team “traditional” I would struggle to decide (are you noticing a theme about my decision-making skills?). That is why I wanted to share a five ideas for you that aren’t breaking the aisle tradition, but are creating unique and beautiful moments.
First Look with Dad
A few minutes before your Dad walks you down the aisle, organize a first look with him. This is such a special moment to share together, and will help both of you shed a few tears in private before walking down together.
First Look with Bridesmaids
I love when my brides do this, who better to cheer you on and let you know you are looking good then your best girls! After getting your wedding dress on, have your bridesmaids (and mom/whoever else is getting ready with you), all stand together for the grand reveal. Have someone count you down and show off that dress!
Quiet Moment After the Ceremony
Immediately following the ceremony, share a quiet moment together. You could read personal vows together, read each other love letters, or simply celebrate your new marriage. You will need to schedule this into your timeline so you make sure that it happens. It can be really helpful to take five minutes to spend together and letting the wedding day sink in!
Sunset Sneak-Out
During your reception, make sure the photographer eats when the head table eats, so you can sneak off and get a few photos taken while the rest of your party is eating. This is a really great way to spend a bit of quality time with your new husband/wife. It is also nice to get photos done at your reception venue, as it can sometimes get forgotten about. If it is the summer, the sun is usually setting right about when dinner is scheduled, which makes for amazing images
Wedding Gifts/Letter
Decide to send each other a wedding gift or letter on the morning of, delivered by your MOH/Best Man. This is a great way to build anticipation. It also lets your loved one know you are excited about all that is to come.
We love all these ideas, and can’t wait to see what couples come up with. If you have an idea that we didn’t mention, share it in the comments! We want to know.
